This solver converts one known power or current value into the other two outputs for the selected Canadian voltage system.

Method

kVA = kW / PF

1-phase A = kVA x 1000 / V

3-phase A = kVA x 1000 / (sqrt(3) x V)

Formula variables

  • PF is the power factor entered for the load.
  • V is the selected nominal voltage.
  • kW is real power and kVA is apparent power.
  • Three-phase current uses line-to-line voltage.

Assumptions

  • The calculator treats voltage as nominal and line current as the current for the selected phase system.
  • Power factor is required to convert between real power and apparent power.
  • The result is a formula conversion, not a conductor, breaker, transformer, generator, service, or code-compliance selection.
  • Use nameplate, measured, utility, or engineering data where available before using a planning estimate.

Examples

600 V three-phase load. A 25 kW load at 0.90 PF on 600 V three-phase converts to about 27.78 kVA and 26.73 A.
